In this week’s podcast I talk about freedom without consequences. It sounds like a movie title, doesn’t it? And in a way it is a fairy tale, yet this concept underpins so many of the social movements towards change. We spend so much time trying to change the behaviour of others, either in our personal lives or the collective, because we feel offended or threatened. Yet these feelings come from a deep sense of unworthiness; an unconscious feeling that we all have in common.
“Buji” is a Zen word meaning no affectation or nothing special and is assigned to those who are masters in Zen. For the western mind this makes no sense, as surely someone who has mastered anything should be described as “special” and be worth of praise. Yet this Buji consciousness is something that we can all aspire to in order to break out of the need to constantly prove ourselves worthy of being alive.
